I am beyond excited to announce that my painting, “Solo Sprint”, has been chosen as a finalist in the USA Pro Challenge Poster contest!
The USA Pro Challenge is a national-level, highly-publicized professional cycling race that takes riders through some of the most scenic and physically demanding destinations in Colorado. We have been fortunate to have the race come through my hometown of Breckenridge for the past few years. The race draws tens of thousands of fans and is growing in popularity every year.
Even if you are not a cycling fan, seeing the Pro Challenge in person is invigorating. Standing within a half mile or so of the finish line of any of the race stages is like nothing else. As the motorcycles and cars come speeding ahead of the leading racers, the crowds goes wild. People in costumes scream and dance on the sides of the street, loudspeakers blast the race commentary, and everyone rings their cowbells. You can’t help but feel shivers as the noise from the crowd crescendos.
As I started this series of cycling paintings, I wanted to capture the energy I’ve felt as a spectator of these races (and perhaps the energy that the racers feel, too!). The feeling is just electrifying! Rather than depict this literally, I chose to convey this magical energy with vibrant colors and expressive brushwork.
As you can imagine, I’m over the moon excited about being chosen as a finalist! Winning this contest would mean national exposure for my art. If you enjoy my art, please vote for my painting by going to the USA Pro Challenge Facebook page and clicking “Poster Contest”, where you can cast your vote. Thank you very much for your support!
